If you are posting very many ads, I recommend getting a craigslist account as it will make posting to craigslist faster. If you wish to post without an account, there’s something you may need to watch out for…

After clicking the Poster Popup button within the Post It box of your ad, a new window opens that normally would have listHD fields on the left and craigslist fields on the right, however, if your not logged into craigslist sometimes you are redirected to the login page. Luckily craigslist adds an option to prevent this. See in the image: Figure 1, the highlighted text: “You can also go to the posting process without logging in”. That’s actually a link. Click there and you will be taken to the craigslist posting page, but that page will not have any listHD fields available. Close that browser window. Now click Poster Popup again, and a page should load with the listHD fields on the left and craigslist frame on the right (shown in the image below). Now you can proceed in posting your item on craigslist.

Step 1 You should have already registered a user account and posted an ad to listHD by now, so login. After logging in, you will see a screen similar to the one on the right. Look under the My Account heading for a link called my active listings. Click that to get started.

Step 2 On this page (my active listings), you can view all of your active listings in a table. Look for the listing you wish to post to craigslist and click on the listing title. In this example, I’ll be clicking on “SAMPLE: Macbook 2.4GHz 4gb ram (115)”.

Step 3 After selecting the title, you will see the main listings detail page. At the top, you should see a box that says “Post It” with options in it. Select the template and options you wish to use in your craigslist post, then click “Preview Template” to preview your selection. After you are happy with the template, go to the next step. If you have a craigslist account, go ahead and login with the “Login to CL” button. Step 4 Now that you have logged into craigslist, click “Post to Craigslist”. A popup window will come up allowing you to finish posting your ad to craigslist.

Step 5 Now the popup window will look similar to that on the right. Select your category and location for posting in the craigslist window as usual.

Step 6 Once you come to the posting page for craigslist, your screen will look similar to the one on the left. Depending on your browser, you may be able to simply drag values from under the listhd.com logo to the correct fields on craigslist. Some browsers do not support this. Alternatively, you can copy and paste the values from the fields under the listhd.com logo to the craigslist fields. To copy, first left click in the field to select the text. Now right click and you will see a menu similar to the one on the screen. Select Copy. Next, right click in the correct craigslist field and select Paste. NOTE: Your images are in the description html text, so there is no need to upload images on craigslist, but it’s not a bad idea to upload your one main image to craigslist as well.

Step 1

You should have already registered a user account on listHD by now, so login. After logging in, you will see a screen similar to the one on the right. Look under the Listing Cart heading for a link called New Classified. Click that to get started.  

Step 2

Choose the appropriate category for your item. Some categories have multiple levels of subcategories. You must continue picking the subcategories until you have selected the deepest level category which will take you to the page to enter details about your item.  

Step 3

Now we are getting to the important stuff. You should see a screen similar to the one on the right. Enter an accurate, descriptive title to catch user’s attention. Next, you have the description field. Here you have options to format the text in order to organize and highlight features of your item. Basic formatting options are shown at the bottom. You may hover over the icons to see their names/description of what they do. You can select the html icon to enter direct html in the description, but be careful doing this. Some word processors generate bloated html code and you could hit the description field character limit of 7,000. You could also paste in code that is not allowed, which would mess up your ad. It is recommended to enter text and format text directly in this tool.  

Step 4

Now after the description comes the rest of the fields. On the tags field, enter any keywords for your item to help searchers find it. The default location of your user account will be shown next which can be set as you wish. For price, you may enter a number and/or a label after it. Set the next contact fields as you wish. The location field is meant to act similar to the location field that craigslist uses. When you have finished entering details, click Next Step.  

Step 5

Now you will come to the upload page. The first section on top allows you to embed youtube videos in your ad. Click Instructions next to Youtube Video Upload for details about this.

The next section allows you to upload images or files. The supported file uploads are: jpg, gif, png, tiff, bmp, pdf, doc, xls. For the image file types, a thumbnail will be generated. For the others, an icon will be shown. Be sure files you upload are less than 2.5MB in size, otherwise you will receive an error.

To upload, click Select File. Browse/select the file you wish to upload. Enter a title if you wish and click Upload. Wait for the file to upload and you will be given another chance to upload another file. When you are finished, hit Continue at the bottom of the page.

Step 6

Now your almost done. To finish, simply click Checkout. You must hit Checkout for your listing to be active, otherwise it will remain in the cart for up to 2 weeks.

Step 1

At the listHD.com homepage, click the Register Now button. Now the registration page will come up and you will need to add the typical information that other sites ask you for. The City/Town field is used to post to the location field on craigslist, so think of it like craigslist’s location field.  

Step 2

Now you will scroll down and see a screen similar to the one on the left. Enter your desired username and password. Note that each must contain 6-12 characters of letters or numbers. Accept the site terms and hit Submit.  

Step 3

A screen similar to the one on the right will appear stating that your registration is pending. Check your inbox for the email address you registered. An email is being sent with a link for you to activate your account.  

Step 4

The email being sent will show up as from (admin[at]listhd.com) and will look similar to the image on the left. To activate your account, simply click on the link (or copy and paste it to your browser) that looks like:

Your account will now be activated and your ready to start posting.
